The school provides its pupils with the opportunity to study a traditional academic curriculum. The intention is to encourage the pupils to develop and improve their attitudes to work and behaviour in the interests of their own future after leaving school, with the hope that they will have more chance of pursuing their own choices. It is exceptional for any pupil not to go on to a Further Education establishment after completing their time at U.T.I.H.S.
Competition between pupils is not encouraged, more emphasis being placed on individuals realising and achieving their full potential.
Sport is limited to one afternoon a week and is looked upon as not only necessary for the physical well-being of the pupils, but also an enjoyable way of encouraging the ability to work in a team.
We insist that pupils respect each others beliefs and life-styles, and the judgement of their teachers. They have to learn to work together and share responsibility in and for the activities of the class. Although the standards of conduct expected from the pupils is also very traditional, the disciplinary system is not harsh.
The school expects parents to co-operate fully with our aims. The greater the problems any pupil has, whether academic or behavioural, then the greater effort and co-operation required of the parents.
